Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you and sorry for any inconvience. WelcomeWelcome to Sweet and Sour Sugar Gliders. We are a small, home based business that specializes in handmade, glider safe pouches and toys. We will soon be adding a large array of sugar glider related items; for those who love gliders, and gliders that are well loved.
Our StoryWe are a large family, including six kids and ten gliders. Of course, we did not start with ten gliders, we started with one, Sugar, and then came Sissy. The story to follow is about our first two gliders, how we ended up sewing our own pouches, and came up with our name. We'd love to add how we ended up with six kids and ten gliders, but we haven't the space or the time to write that story. Sugar came to live with us disguised as a birthday present for our eight year old daughter, Erin. And shamefully, we admit, we weren't as informed as a new glider owners should be. Thankfully, Sugar came home with a Sweet disposition and eager to be part of our family. We quickly fell in love with Sugar and thankfully found Glider Central, there we gained the information we should have had to begin with. Not long after this we knew we wanted to add another glider to our family. This time we educated ourselves first and later set out to adopt a 4 month old that was in desperate need of a new home. After weeks of phone calls, emails, and quizzes, we were told that we were chosen- and for a small fee and a long drive- she could be ours. The owner said "She's only four months old, a little vocal, not really mean, but... needs a lot of bonding time. Good luck". Confident in our abilities after bonding with a glider from a 'pet store', we knew this hand raised joey wouldn't be much of a challenge. We bought new pouches and prepared to spend many hours bonding with her. But what the previous owner should have said was... "She's much older than four months, she crabs with every movement and sound, will lunge, bite, and draw blood, she's scared to death. Good luck". This is where the Sour in Sweet and Sour Sugar Gliders came from, and of course, Sugar, is the Sweet. We wanted to start bonding with Sissy, but couldn't even get her out of the cage pouch and into the bonding pouch without either an escape, or vicious bites. Everyone involved ended up so nervous we were all ready to give up. When we were able to get Sissy into the bonding pouch, she would never go back to sleep and spent the whole time trying to get out. Bonding time felt like torture time for the all of us. This is where the idea of a pouch that could be used as both a cage pouch and a bonding pouch began, to reduce the stress on Sissy. The pouch had to be glider safe, easily convertible, versatile, yet secure. After many trial pouches it has changed and improved into what it is today The Sissy Pouch with Comfort Strap and eventually prompted us into creating additional items such as the Baby Soft Bra Pouch, and the creation of this web store. Sissy has come a long way since then and so have our pouches. As for the rest of the story...the six kids and ten gliders, they came one or two at a time. And we couldn't live without a one of them.
